Groups of customers, suppliers and items
Groups sort your parties and items, like "Retail customers", "Ludhiana route" or "Paints". Reports then add them up group by group.
Step by step
- Open the groups. Under Customers and suppliers or Items and services open Groups.
- Press New group. For parties, choose whether it goes under Customers or Suppliers (built in), or under one of your groups as a sub-group.
- Give parties and items their group. In each party or item form choose the Group, or type a New group name there.
- Tidy up. Rename, Merge two groups into one, or Delete a group once it is empty.
Worked example
Customers › Ludhiana customers › Builders. Gill Builders goes in Builders, Verma Paints in Ludhiana customers. In Group reports, Ludhiana customers shows ₹11,750 Dr: its own ₹3,726 plus Builders' ₹8,024.
Groups in Tally
When you export to Tally, your party groups go under Sundry Debtors and Sundry Creditors, and item groups become stock groups.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Deleting a group with parties in it. Move or merge them first; a group can be deleted only when empty.
